2015 Iran nuclear deal
The 2015 Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was an agreement between Iran and six world powers: the United States, United Kingdom, France, Russia, China, and Germany. The deal aimed to limit Iran's nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions, ensuring that Iran could not develop nuclear weapons.
Under the terms of the JCPOA, Iran agreed to reduce its uranium enrichment and allow inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The agreement was seen as a significant step towards diplomatic resolution of concerns over Iran's nuclear ambitions, but it faced criticism and challenges, particularly from the U.S. government, which withdrew from the deal in 2018.
