1972 Munich Olympics
The 1972 Munich Olympics were held in Munich, West Germany, from August 26 to September 11. This event marked the first time the Olympics were hosted in Germany since the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The games featured 7,123 athletes from 121 nations competing in 21 sports.
Tragically, the event is often remembered for the Munich Massacre, where a Palestinian terrorist group called Black September took 11 members of the Israeli Olympic team hostage. The situation escalated, resulting in the deaths of all the hostages, which cast a shadow over the games and led to increased security measures in future Olympics.
