1956 Revolution
The 1956 Revolution in Hungary was a nationwide revolt against the Soviet-imposed policies of the People's Republic of Hungary. It began on October 23, 1956, when students and intellectuals demanded political reforms, including freedom of speech and the withdrawal of Soviet troops. The protests quickly escalated, leading to a government change and the withdrawal of Soviet forces from Budapest.
However, the revolution was short-lived. On November 4, 1956, the Soviet Union launched a military intervention to suppress the uprising, resulting in heavy casualties and the re-establishment of a communist government. The revolution highlighted the struggle for independence and the desire for democratic reforms in Eastern Europe.
