1922 Constitution
The 1922 Constitution was the first constitution of the Irish Free State, which was established following the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921. It provided a framework for self-governance while still recognizing the British monarch as the head of state. The constitution aimed to balance the powers of the legislature and the executive, establishing a parliamentary system.
This constitution included provisions for civil liberties and the protection of individual rights. However, it was criticized for its limitations and was eventually replaced by a new constitution in 1937, which further defined the structure of the state and its relationship with the British Commonwealth.
