시조
시조 is a traditional form of Korean poetry that consists of three stanzas, each with a specific syllable count. The first and third stanzas have four lines, while the second stanza has six lines. This structure allows for a concise expression of emotions and thoughts, often reflecting themes of nature, love, and philosophy.
The origins of 시조 date back to the 14th century during the Goryeo Dynasty, and it became more popular in the Joseon Dynasty. Many famous poets, such as Lee Hwang and Kim So-wol, contributed to its development, making it an essential part of Korean literary heritage.
