서당
서당 is a traditional Korean educational institution that primarily focused on teaching Confucian texts and moral education. It was commonly attended by young boys from the Joseon Dynasty, where they learned reading, writing, and the principles of Confucianism. The curriculum emphasized the importance of ethics and social responsibility.
In a 서당, students were often taught by a scholar or a teacher known as a 서생. The environment was typically informal, allowing for a close relationship between the teacher and students. Although 서당s have largely disappeared in modern times, they played a significant role in shaping Korea's educational history and cultural values.
