初詣
初詣 (Hatsumode) is the traditional Japanese practice of visiting a shrine or temple during the first few days of the new year. This custom is believed to bring good fortune and blessings for the year ahead. Many people visit famous shrines, such as 明治神宮 (Meiji Shrine) in Tokyo, to pray for health, happiness, and success.
During 初詣, visitors often purchase お守り (omamori), which are talismans for protection, and 絵馬 (ema), wooden plaques on which they write their wishes. The atmosphere is festive, with food stalls and traditional activities, making it a popular event for families and friends to celebrate the new year together.
