元日
元日 (Ganjitsu) is the Japanese term for New Year's Day, celebrated on January 1st. It marks the beginning of the new year in the Gregorian calendar and is a significant holiday in Japan. Families often gather to celebrate, and many people visit shrines and temples to pray for good fortune in the coming year.
During 元日, traditional customs include eating special foods called osechi, which are beautifully arranged in lacquered boxes. People also send nengajo, or New Year's cards, to friends and family. The day is filled with various festivities, reflecting the importance of renewal and hope for the future.
