نerve agents
Nerve agents are a class of chemical weapons that disrupt the normal functioning of the nervous system. They inhibit the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, leading to an accumulation of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. This causes continuous stimulation of muscles, glands, and the central nervous system, resulting in severe symptoms and potentially death.
Common nerve agents include sarin, VX, and tabun. These substances can be absorbed through the skin, inhaled, or ingested, making them highly dangerous. Due to their lethal effects, nerve agents are banned under the Chemical Weapons Convention, which aims to eliminate the use of chemical weapons globally.
