νέον
The term "νέον" (pronounced "neon") refers to a chemical element with the symbol Ne and atomic number 10. It is a colorless, odorless, and inert gas that belongs to the noble gases group in the periodic table. Neon is most commonly known for its use in bright, colorful signs and lighting, where it emits a distinct reddish-orange glow when an electric current passes through it.
Discovered in 1898 by William Ramsay and Morris Travers, neon is the fifth most abundant element in the universe. It is primarily extracted from the atmosphere, where it exists in trace amounts. Due to its non-reactive nature, neon is also used in various applications, including high-voltage indicators and vacuum tubes.
