Σκύλλα
Σκύλλα is a mythical sea monster from ancient Greek mythology, often depicted as having multiple dog-like heads and a long, serpentine body. She is known for dwelling on the rocky coast of Strait of Messina, opposite her counterpart, Χάρυβδης, another sea monster that creates whirlpools. Sailors feared encountering Σκύλλα, as she would snatch them from their ships.
In the myth, Σκύλλα was once a beautiful nymph who was transformed into a monster by the sorceress Κίρκη out of jealousy. This transformation led her to terrorize sailors, making her a symbol of danger in the treacherous waters of the ancient world. Her story is often referenced in literature, including Homer's epic, the Odyssey.
