Γεώργιος Παπαδόπουλος
Γεώργιος Παπαδόπουλος (1919-1999) was a Greek military officer and politician who became the leader of Greece following a coup d'état in 1967. He served as the head of the military junta that ruled Greece until 1974, a period marked by authoritarian governance and political repression. His regime aimed to suppress leftist movements and promote nationalism.
Under Παπαδόπουλος, Greece experienced significant political turmoil and social unrest. The junta's rule ended after a failed coup attempt in 1974, leading to the restoration of democracy in the country. His legacy remains controversial, with many viewing him as a dictator who curtailed civil liberties.
