{McMurdo Station
McMurdo Station is a research facility located on the southern tip of Ross Island in Antarctica. Operated by the United States, it serves as a hub for scientific research and logistical support for various projects in the region. The station is named after the nearby McMurdo Sound and is the largest of the U.S. Antarctic research stations.
Established in 1956, McMurdo Station can accommodate around 1,000 residents during the summer months and about 200 in winter. It provides essential services, including housing, dining, and laboratories, enabling scientists to study topics such as climate change, glaciology, and biology in one of the most extreme environments on Earth.
